Phylloing my way to the finish line

Things that are dull:

1. Endless stockinette in black fingering-weight cotton.

2. Blogging about endless stockinette in black fingering-weight cotton.

I’m slowly phylloing my way to a completed sweater, but ugh! So much stockinette! I’m really trying to finish this one before I leave for Baltimore on Friday. There is one sleeve remaining, then the sweater gets a bath and a date with our dryer. My fingers will be crossed the whole time as I hope and pray that my row gauge really does shrink from 9 sts/inch to 11, as my swatch said it would. I’ve been doubting this the entire time I’ve knit the sweater, but swatches don’t lie, right? A side affect of the change in row gauge is that I get to knit the sweater 20% more than my desired length, which adds to the fun of endless, black, soul-sucking stockinette.

I did get a ton of knitting done over the weekend in the car to and from Austin! Our goal was to hit the Texas wine trail for some wine tasting, which was surprisingly tasty. We also celebrated Staci’s milestone birthday, had a tasty gospel brunch with Sarah (praise jesus for migas!), and visited with an old friend of Rob’s. Fun!

I’m endlessly amused by Texas’ love for, well, Texas, so I had to snap a photo of this as we left our hotel:

Um, maybe I kind of sort of want a Texas wafflemaker now. We’ll see how much money I end up spending on yarn this weekend.

I hear you. From what I’ve been reading (myself included!) it seems like a lot of knitters have the knitting blahs lately. There are several projects I abandoned due to endless seas of stockinette, so I definitely feel your pain. Luckily yours looks great and is almost finished! Eye on the prize!!

I’m knitting the back right now of phyllo and I can’t take much more. So much stockinette!!!!!!

You have beautiful stitch definition! Are you by chance going to Baltimore to attend the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival this weekend? I’m so excited, I can’t wait!

OMG, that Texas Waffle Iron ROCKS! Did it also make gigantic (texas sized, heh) waffles?

I can’t wait to see you in Maryland! It also amuses me to no end that I have to go all the way to the Eastern Seaboard to see so many of my Texas knitter friends . . .

Um, not that I’d enable or anything, but after I saw that waffle-maker on Flickr I went looking:

    “but swatches don’t lie, right?”

    Hahahahahahaha!

Ehem. Sorry about that. Of course they don’t (I laugh only because of a recent non-lying swatch project that was 44 inches around instead of 39, but that’s probably just me).

Love the waffle iron. And migas. Is there any where in Houston that does migas? Because it’s practically worth the drive to Austin to get some.

    Have fun in MD!

I am just so happy that you had the fortitude to stick with it. Mine is buried because of the whole row gauge issue I mentioned :( I love yours! Really hoping to see you this year at the festival!

So jealous that you are going. Have a great trip! I doubt that you will find a Maryland-shaped waffle maker to bring home as a souvenir, but it’ll be fun to see what yarn you come up with

texas has a wine trail? amazing! and they have their own shaped waffle maker? also amazing!

i can image all that black stockinette is tedious, but it does look like it’s going to make an awfully pretty and versatile pullover.

Phyllo is looking pretty! I’m looking forward to seeing it finished. Although black can be boring, it usually looks great when finished.

It’s true that Phyllo is hella boring to knit, but it’s a great sweater to wear. You’re going to love it when it’s done.

Um, you know, if it fits. :)

that waffle maker is so amazing. the sweater looks great, but stockinette is my mortal enemy!

Phyllo is great and everything, keep sticking with it, blah, blah. Um yeah, I think you absolutely need a Texas waffle iron.

You know you want that Texas waffle iron!!!

oooohhh, I *so* want one of those! When we lived in Austin, I believe we had a “don’t mess with texas” shirt. My favorite was in the movie Pee Wee Herman’s big adventure - when we “proved” he was in texas he said “the stars at night are big and bright” and everyone stopped and said “deep in the heart of texas”. Cracks me up because that is totally what would happen!

ps. stockinette IS boring, but somehow we all get through it! good luck with finishing!

All that black stockinette will be worth it! It’s looking great! Looking forward to Saturday!

It does look great so stick with it. I haven’t knit in black yet which is wierd considering it is my most worn colour!

    Hilarious… Maybe I’ll see you at MDS&W!!

I know stockinette can get old REAL fast. But oh, will it be worth it! It’s looking so beautiful
