My pants are cranky

Oooh, I have had a royally bad week, people. Total suckage around these parts. And a certain Tangled Yoke isn’t helping manners any.

It looks perfectly tangled, huh? Well this sweater has given me nothing but fits the whole way. I actually had the yoke almost completely finished (sans neckband) when I finally counted my stitches and realized that it’s too big. I had originally cast on for a size too large. Damn! To seal the deal ripping-wise, my center motif wasn’t in the center, as I followed the directions on where to put the center portion without counting how far it was from the other edge. Then I sleepily re-cast-on on a plane and didn’t double check my stitch count, and I’m 8 stitches short for the yoke. Wha? I fudged the decreases before the cabley portion, and now we’re finally good to go.

I provisionally cast on at the bottom of the yoke so I can knit the body portion top-down and try on the fit as I go. I’m pretty close to one of the sizes, and hopefully my incorrect stitch count will produce the perfect amount of negative ease. If not, I’ll be creatively blocking this thing to make it fit, because I’m certainly not ripping it again!

Then the kitten adoption place that we’ve been working with has been effectively dicking us around with vaccination requirements and insisting we pay to spay/neuter the kittens (I shudder to think how much we’ve already spent on veterinary care). We’ve found a new place and will hopefully find these guys new homes soon. I mean, who can resist these stripes?

Or how about this spunky gal:

I totally want to keep her, but Rob says no. Boo.

Sorry to hear you’ve had so many knitting problems :( And what’s up with that shelter?! Those kittens are going to be adopted as soon as they get to one, I’m sure.

Cute kittens! I hope the adoptions work out. Lovely color for the tangled yoke cardi.

I’ll make a little sacrifice to the knitting gods and ask them to restore your mojo. Last week was like that for me too. It seemed as if nothing I knitted was turning out right, and it made me completely cranky.

aww, sorry that you’re having a crappy week.

i like your idea of doing the provisional cast-on for the yoke and knitting down later. if i ever get to the tangled yoke cardigan, i’ll be following in your footsteps and doing the same!

eeep! i love the kitten pics!

I experience similar frustration with the Silver Belle, who is now in a major time out situation. Glad you have the fortitude to knit on!!

I like your idea of knitting the yoke top-down, that pattern is in my queue! And I would totally adopt those kittens, if my landlord didn’t forbid pets. They are adorable.

I’d love to take kitten(s) but I think FedEx would have a problem taking something with airholes cut in it!

Where are the kitties? Hopefully close to where I am!

Aw, take care, K. I hope next week is a better one.
Once you find a place for the kitties, they are so going to get snapped up — totally irresistible.

Clever, clever girl with the provisional cast-on. Good luck!

The sweater color is gorgeous! Keep going it will be fantastic when you finish it! I sure hate it too when everything goes wrong and you cannot even retreat to knitting to make it all better. Hope tomorrow is better for you.

i’m having some bad knitting mojo too…after *casting on, knitting, not having it come out, ripping*, repeat from * several times, i realized that i think it’s a pattern error…don’t tell me to cast on 110 stitches, then give me a pattern to follow that does not equal 110 stitches!!! time to search for some pattern errata on the web…anyway, i feel your pain! And I’d totally take one of those kittens off your hands, but DH has put his foot down on getting more animals :-(

Please tell me that Zelda hasn’t found a home. I’m 99.99% sure I can have her. Mr. Twisted has given me PROVISIONAL permission . . . let’s talk!

Here is what I’m thinking- if you Google the words “Tangled Yoke Frog,” there are many hits. I think we need a button “Tangled Yoke Forggers Unite.”

Awww….they are too cute! I can’t resist their charms.

If I wasn’t in IL and you were in TX, I’d totally take a kitten. Even if I have two cats. And my youngest just outgrew kittenhood. But I have another older cat and he tries to play with her and its just not good. :)
