Yarn

Knit Happens had a big sale recently, really big. And I missed it. But I made up for that in spades when I saw the Yarnzilla one. 20% off your order, with an additional 15% off if you spend lots-o-money. I went to a friends house for drinks last weekend (Rob drove, what a guy), and then came home and spent lots-o-money.

The Koigu. Ah, the Koigu. I bought two of each colorway here. Unfortunately, I’m a bit disappointed by the green, I thought would look more gray-green, like, say, this. Surprise! Buyer beware, I should have asked the internets the true meaning of color 323.

The brownish purple is awesome, perfect, heavenly. P300.

Then I really slipped, fell, ouch. I bought enough yarn for three sweaters.

In my semi-drunken haze, I didn’t realize that the two Rowan colors were almost identical. Eep! I guess I know what I like, and that is purple. I was even going to buy the Cotton Fleece in the Berry color (a purplish pink), but switched to the periwinkle at the last moment.

I can justify the Brown Sheep – I’ve been meaning to buy a bunch for a sweater, and my LYS has a perpetually picked-over selection of Cotton Fleece. I can even justify the 4 ply cotton – I love the yarn, and it’s one of the few yarns wearable in the weather around here. The Calmer was a splurge. Super splurge. It cost more than the cotton fleece plus 4 ply cotton combined. But it was on sale, and I’ve been meaning to rob a Calmer truck for awhile, so it’s mine.

I’m happy that I bought this stuff when I did – they’re selling out of things pretty quickly (everything I purchased is now unavailable). But that’s it! No more yarn! Until, um, Maryland Sheep and Wool. In three weeks. I’m visiting some friends in DC and Baltimore and happened to schedule my trip so that it coincides with the YARN. I’ll be driving up there by myself early Saturday – my friend has to work (and thinks I’m insane), and Rob would rather nap. Hopefully I’ll get to see some of the people from the internets there!

I love Yarnzilla, and I’m lucky enough to live nearby!

Why does purple make such compelling yarn for sweaters? I keep buying purple yarn for sweaters, yet if I were out shopping, I would avoid anything purple (not on principle, just because). What’s up with that?

    ooh, pretty pretty koigu.

if you want some purple, I’ve got like 2 lbs of chenille. this stuff is like eggplant purple incarnate… you know you’re tempted! ;)

Pretty, pretty yarn! Koigu love! I have always considered my yarn splurges to be a form of therapy, and therefore I cannot feel guilty about them. At least in theory. :)

And here speaks the girl who has ordered approximately 1 kg of sock yarn this month. I need socks, enough said.

All great purples! Koigu is so hard….the colors are so different that picking on line is hit or miss – you never know what site has the accurate color!

I’ll be there at MSWF, along with at least two and maybe ten more knitters/spinners/bloggers from Dallas!

Yikes, that was my 3 year yarn budget! You will love the Cotton Fleece, it’s a really nice yarn especially nice for a cotton. The others I am sure you are going to love too, but then you had better, eh? I’ll take that yucky green gray Koigu off your hands if you like.

Why is there sushi in that picture?

Very nice stuff you’ve got there. I just bought a ball of Calmer for a hat, it’s soooo soft. A whole sweater would be so luxurious.

You certainly know what you like! I could have picked out all of those colors as “Kelly colors” myself. :)

I love purple too! I have resisted the Calmer so far, but I did scope out the LYS to see the colors in person. I can’t resist much longer!

I miss the sale at Knithappens, too. By the time I made it to their website, everything good was taken.

i love your stash enhancements, AND your justification for it. although you don’t have to sell me on slipping and buying more yarn. i’m an expert. :) i’ll be Koigu shopping within the month, and i can’t wait.

Yo!!! Don’t feel bad. I drunk dialed a crap-load of yarn from BMFA the last time I had a few too many. It happens to the best of us.

Nice colors!! Gotta love the purple.

OMG! I can’t believe that you’re going to MSWF too! I see Chris (skittermagoo) already commented, so its no big surprise, but there are a few of us from Dallas going. Have you decided what day you’re attending? We’ll be going both days, so we should totally meet up. Yay!

Oh, yeah… your yarn purchases are loverly. I likey the purples, too.
