Sea Wool

Yarntopia had their anniversary sale this past weekend. I wasn’t planning on going, since most of the sale yarn was wool (and it’s already heating up here in Houston), but the planets aligned in such a way that I ended up in Katy, surrounded by yarn.

Yarntopia had some non-wool on sale, and I bought a bag of GGH Scarlett in basic, lovely black for 40% off. I need to surround myself with more black yarn, since that’s by far the color I wear the most.

Even more exciting was the Fleece Artist - not on sale, but awesome all the same. They had just gotten in a shipment, which included the brand new Sea Wool:

This stuff is 115 grams of YUM. It’s got a great twist, and is soft and pretty. There’s no way that this will become socks - it deserves better than that. I’m open to project suggestions.

However, the yarn has these funky undyed bits throughout the skein:

The clumps pull out (carefully!), but still! I spotted about a half dozen of these, I’m sure there’s more.

And the free pattern on the label?

Looks like a Jaywalker to me.

I got some too, from the store where I work, in Ruby Red and it’s got the white undyed bits too. I think all of them have got those. And yes, I did think the pattern looked a lot like Jaywalkers to me! lol

Hmm, sure does. What’s up with that? I mean, it’s not impossible for 2 designers to come up with the same idea independently, but it’s not like there’s anyone left in the knitting world who hasn’t seen a Jaywalker.

The yarn is gorgeous though–so shiny. Maybe something like Argosy?

I love how they’re called Bordello socks. You really did have (paid for) SEX in Katy. Oh snap..

so pretty! i wonder what sea bits are undyed like that? Does look like a jaywalker pattern, but there are so many basic increase/decrease patterns out there - flipping through one Barbara Walker book you can see patterns from most of the projects out on the net!

Pretty yarn! It seems that the Jaywalkers have moved on from their life of petty crime to work in the Bordello. Maybe someone should stage an intervention.

Nice yarn. Man, I *still* have never made it out to Yarntopia. Hey, did you hear they’ve started selling yarn at Henley Market on the Strand? I need to check that out at some point.

So beautiful! What will it be? A shawl or scarf? The nicest sweater for a little tot? It’s fun to dream up all the options… How’s that cat bed?

Huh…that’s weird—they totally look like jaywalkers. The yarn’s gorgeous though. Instead of socks, how about some simple openwork cap/hat, for the spring.

What lovely yarn! Maybe a shetland triangle, or some kind of lacy scarf?

Jaywalkers with a garter stitch rib on the top… I have a pattern from Mountain Colors that’s basically a Jaywalker with eyelets around the “ridge” columns.

I am intrigued by the Sea Wool. What ever are you going to make with it?? I can hardly wait to see how it knits up.
