Friday Photos
Seaming the Asymmetrical Jacket. We’ve got one buttonband and the collar down, all that remains is the second buttonband and sleeve cuffs. The second buttonband gets the buttonholes, and I’m changing the buttonhole placement from the pattern, so it requires some serious procrastination.
I tried on the sweater yesterday, and holy crap, it fits! This is somewhat shocking, because things didn’t look so hot fit-wise before the buttonband and collar were seamed on.
There have been some excellent yarn store sales in Houston this month. Last weekend I bought some Blue Sky Cotton from Twisted Yarns at a discount, and started this brioche stitch number. I’m feeling a bit Eh about the result - it’s pretty, but I’m not wild about it in this yarn. I think the yarn wants to be mistake rib. Or a Squarey - I’ve made two Squareys for friends, and I want one for me! Another LYS is having a winter sale this weekend, and I bought a bunch of the sportweight Louet merino for 35% off!
I (cough!) took a sick day from work today, which gave me plenty of time to work on the Cambridge Jacket and photograph it on a mildly pissed Silver. The progress photos for this sweater are going to be bo-ring - how many photos of a straight, semi-ribbed sweater back can one take, really?

I have always lived the combination of that blue (or a celadon) with a chocolate brown. What are you making with it? Perhaps doing it in a double knit might give you the results you’re looking for, if you’re making a scarf. You can still get the vertical stripe pattern and even try a different patt on the other side. Just a thought… Glad to see you’re finishing up that asymetrical sweater.
It seriously sucks that Malabrigo is not so durable a yarn, because it has so many other great qualities. I ADORE the color you’re using for the asymmetrical jacket.
Oh well, just figure it’ll still be as soft and the color still as gorgeous even once all stitch definition has gone soft.
I like your squareys, they look like a lot less putting together than my monster pillows do. My making up of them is atrocious!I can’t find the pictures in my archives(ask me how long I looked) I can’t remember when I finished it. But I’ll keep looking and let you know!
Lovely photos (and cat!). I know what you mean about boring progress pictures. I just started working on a sweater–my first!–and it’s all ribbing.
Congrats on the Asymmetrical jacket fitting well! Frogging back to correct a fitting mistake would have been a PAIN. I’m excited to see it.
I am really loving the Asymmetrical cardi. And the green that you’ve chosen is fantastic. The Blue Sky cotton yarn is really gorgeous…those colors together = fantastic. Mistake rib should definitely be a contender. While the Squareys are super-cute, that yarn needs to be worn, I think. And, of course, there’s nothing like Rowan tweed in any and all forms.
Your projects look great!
Ooo, the asymmetrical cardigan looks great! I can’t wait to see the full product.
Ooh, you’re almost done with the jacket! Can’t wait to see it. I avoided the LYS sale this weekend–didn’t want to be tempted.
I love the blue and brown together - so gorgeous…
I’m not familiar with the “brioche stitch” - but I think it’s really interesting. If you’re not happy with it, you could try a modified architect scarf (from “Knit Cafe”) with just two colors????
the cardi is looking great - you are chugging right along! Hmm - maybe a mistake rib or something else would be better from that yarn combo - I wonder if it’s the cotton that’s making it look so funny?
Can’t wait to see that finished cardi! It’s going to be gorgeous. I also love the sweater you’ve chosen for your man - it’s one I’ve considered making for my husband, since it’s so simple and classic looking.
The AsymCardi is just KILLER in that yarn and color. I hope it’s one that you’ll love wearing because it’ll be so beautiful!!
Your photos are gorgeous - so nicely done!
