A Case of the Clap

Houston was brrrrr cold this weekend, so I shockingly got to wear my newly-finished Clapotis! I worked on it over the course of about a year, very on-and-off. The yarn is Noro Shinano, color #14, which is discontinued. I really like the tweedy texture of the yarn (the white parts are undyed silk), and the stripey purple-pink-grey colorway is fab.

When I purchased the yarn on ebay, I didn’t realize that the colorway included this crazy garish teal-green color. What’s a resourceful girl to do but cut out all the green bits and spit splice the yarn back together… Those poor little balls of yarn are the remainders. They don’t look so bad, but they are bright-as-hell teal inside.

Sockpalooza!

I joined Sockpalooza because I am totally on a sock-knitting swing right now. I fell in deep deep love with Knitty’s Pomatomus when I first saw it, and this is the perfect opportunity to make it! I’m using Koigu, in a semi-solid dark pinky-purpley color.

The chart for this pattern is easier than I thought – basically K1tbl, P1 around, with one decrease and one YO per repeat. I really love the way that it’s turning out so far.

Ribbon Scarf

Ribbon Scarf from Handknit Holidays. I sort-of followed the pattern for the Kidsilk Haze version of the scarf, but I cast on about 160 stitches and used size 10.5 needles. I used less than two balls of yarn (the pattern calls for 3). The scarf definitely needed some reinforcing – all of the weight was on the cast-on edge, and the KSH is a pretty thin yarn. I happened to have some Lamb’s Pride in a matching color, so I reinforced it with that (which you can see below).

Backyard Leaves

Backyard Leaves from Scarf Style. I knit most of this about a year ago, but didn’t seam it up and gift it until this past winter. Blocking really improved this puppy.

(Not really) Vintage Velvet and momscarf

Hello! I’m kelly, a northeasterner currently living in Houston, TX. Welcome to the blog!

I made a bunch of gifts for people for xmas, and the first was this scarf for my mother-in-law – Vintage Velvet from Scarf Style. Rather than using the Meunch Touch Me yarn called for in the pattern, I used some smooth wool yarn that I picked up in Florence this past summer. I really like this pattern – it went very quickly, and the reversible cable is a certainly a crowd-pleaser.

Momscarf – eyelet pattern knitted with Berroco Cotton Twist yarn. The yarn was very splitty.
